Born in Nürnberg, Germany, artist Nina Urlichs explores themes at the intersection of humanity, space, and nature, often emphasizing their emotional and poetic dimensions. After earning a diploma in fashion design in 1992, she shifted her focus to the visual arts, pursuing further studies and training in France, Austria, and Germany until 1996.

Nina has participated in group exhibitions in New York, Paris, and London. She has also taken part in several international residencies, including in China, at 59Rivoli in Paris (2015–2016), and in Tuscany, Italy (2021). Her work has been featured in publications such as Annuaire OFF, Artscene France, and Visionary Art NY (2022). ABOUT

My art creates a visual language that explores the relationship between the intimate universe and the human body. Through it, I seek to reveal the dual nature of contemporary life—its fears, its joys, its shifting emotional landscapes.

At first glance, the works may appear as beautiful images, but over time, they unfold to reveal underlying realities and provoke ambiguous, unsettled feelings. My practice is rooted in the philosophy of a perpetual life cycle—an endless rhythm of appearance and disappearance. This is reflected in my materials: layers of faded traces, washed-out paintings, fragmented collages, and transparent canvases or papers. Their lightness mirrors my search for both luminosity and depth. Balance in composition is essential, as is the openness of my installations, which resist traditional framing and borders.

In recent works, abstract and semi-figurative red and black lines emerge—marking directions and horizons. These lines remain free for interpretation, each viewer inviting to navigate their own path. They stretch beyond the frame, like maps charting unknown territories, suggesting journeys through memory and toward the yet-unseen possibilities of personal enlightenment.
